I am curious as to why you do not have Georgian wines..from the Republic of Georgia since you list Russia. They make wine using the oldest process in the world. There is a Georgian restaurant in the DC area that orders the wine for us and a former US ambassador to Georgia. The Germans are also working with the Georgians overseas in partnership. Just curious as I didn’t see them on the map in your magazine which is very informative.
Hi Victoria!
This is a great question. DC is… well, it’s kind of like it’s own Wild West when it comes to certain alcohol restrictions that are run state by state and the Alcohol Beverage Control Boards (ABC). To basically sum it up: places in DC can do things retailers outside DC cannot. 🙁
As a retailer, we have to operate within the three-tier system. So basically, everything we carry has to be ordered through a wholesaler/importer, who get these products directly from the producer. If a wholesaler/importer/distributor locally does not have the product for the local area stores to order, then unfortunately we’re at the whim of what’s available to us.
That being said, we do carry Georgian wines! The selection can just be limited due to the location. Click here to see the selection at your local store: https://www.totalwine.com/wine/georgia-republic-/c/000445
