Sure Galentine’s Day may be a made up Holiday, but I’ll take any excuse to spend a day celebrating the lovely ladies in my life.

galentine's day holding red wine

The perfect brunch menu does exist and it consists of: cocktails, food, chocolates, wine, and friends. I have a menu so good – even Leslie Knope would approve. Now even though Brunch is nothing without a mimosa, I’m pretty sure us ladies know how to make those pretty well by now…90% Champagne & 10% Orange Juice right? Anyway, now that we’ve mastered that let’s get started with one of my favorite sips that’s a little different.

ROSE SANGRIA

Serves: 4-6
Preparation Time: 10 minutes, plus 24 hours to chill
Difficulty Level: Easy

Rosé Sangria

Impress the girl’s with this fruity Sangria. A must have at brunch, and a definite “heck yes” in the group chat.

Ingredients

  • 1 750-mL bottle Rosé
  • 1/4 cup orange liqueur
  • 2 Tbs. brandy
  • 1-2 Tbs. granulated sugar (optional)
  • 1 cup grapes, sliced in half
  • 1 cup strawberries
  • 1 cup chilled sparkling water
  • More grapes and strawberries for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large pitcher, combine rosé, orange liqueur, and brandy. Add sugar to taste if desired.
  2. Stir until sugar is dissolved (if added) or until ingredients are combined.
  3. Add the halved grapes, strawberries and sparkling water to the pitcher, then stir again.
  4. Chill overnight for best results, or serve immediately.
  5. Serve in glasses over ice.
  6. Garnish with grapes and strawberries.

The next cocktail I have prepared is one to die for. I mean White Claw, Strawberry Lemonade, and Rose in one drink? Could this be better than a diamond? Definitely not but definitely close.

STRAWBERRY LEMONADE SPRITZER

Glasses of Strawberry Lemonade Spritzer

Serves: 1
Preparation Time: 5 minutes
Difficulty Level: Easy

Ingredients

  • Strawberries
  • Rosé Wine
  • 4 oz. White Claw Pure Hard Seltzer
  • 4 oz. Strawberry Lemonade
  • Fresh lemon, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Place a strawberry in each compartment of an ice cube tray and top with Rosé Wine.
  2. Place in freezer and chill overnight until frozen.
  3. Pour half of a White Claw into a glass with the Rosé & strawberry ice cubes, top off with strawberry lemonade.
  4. Garnish with lemon.

No my visual learners, I didn’t forget about you:

SNACK TIME

You’ve probably worked yourself up an appetite by watching those cocktail videos. I’ll give you some delicious recipe ideas to pair with your cocktails or even your favorite glass of wine.

BAGELS

Did someone say bagels? A little sparkle goes a long way, and immediately turns any basic brunch food up a notch. Sparkling wines typically offer a tart acidity and light sweetness, which help to cleanse the palate when paired with delicious bagels. And the best part is, the more toppings you add, the more these sparkling wines really help those flavors pop!

SMOKED SALMON

Smoked salmon is the ultimate brunch bestie and quite the breakfast combination. Often served with bagels, avocado toast or capers, the secret behind pairing this dish is finding a wine with enough acidity to complement the super salty and fishy flavors—while also being delicate enough not to overpower them. Sauvignon’s crisp, refreshing taste does just that.

WAFFLES

Leslie Knope would be disappointed if waffles were not included in our brunch menu. So whether they’re drenched in syrup or covered in fruit, waffles go well with a variety of drinks. Rosé is one of the best brunch drinks to pair with these delicious carb bombs, particularly when you load it up with oranges, limes or raspberries. The acidic fruit cuts through the rich syrup and thick waffles, and the sweetness of the wine creates a lovely balance.

I don’t know about you but I can’t wait for Galentine’s day. If you’re looking for even MORE inspo on how to celebrate with your girls, head over to our brunch page to get tips on all the sips and sweets for the perfect day.

Rosé and mole: Wines for the best of Tex-Mex

When Tex-Mex is on the menu, most of us reach reflexively for a beer. But with its variety of ingredients, flavors and means of preparation, Tex-Mex cuisine pairs beautifully with a range of different wines. At Total Wine & More, we carry more than 8,000 wines, so it’s safe to say we can help you find a tasty match, whether you’re cooking up carnitas or tostadas.

Starting with salsa or guacamole? For the ever-popular tomatillo salsa, made from the green husk tomato, think white wine. The herbal notes in a tropical New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc or a rich Verdejo, from the Rueda region of northwestern Spain, will enhance a zesty green salsa. These wines or a nice dry Riesling will also stand up to the richness of avocado in guacamole.

Sparkling rosés, with their bright flavors and beautiful color, have become some of our most popular bubblies. Their lively bubbles and refreshing acidity make them a perfect match for Tex-Mex favorites. If you’re feasting on boldly flavored pork dishes like tacos al pastor or carnitas, we recommend a brut, or dry, rosé. A rosé can even come in handy when you want a wine to balance the robust flavors of tomato-based dishes, such as enchiladas in red tomato sauce and chicken in dark mole.

There are few of us who can resist the sizzle of a freshly prepared fajita plate. However, when it comes to pairing wine with fajitas, you have to take into account more than just whether they’re beef or chicken. Fajitas are the sum of their parts, which often include grilled onions and peppers, pico de gallo and sour cream. With such a hefty dish, we suggest a full-bodied wine. Set your sights on a young Argentine Malbec or California Zinfandel, which offer robust flavors and sturdy tannins to match the full flavors of fajitas.

Say “Salud,” and head over to Total Wine & More to find the perfect pairing for your next Tex-Mex meal.

There’s a lot of pressure to give the right gift on Valentine’s Day, isn’t there?  It can’t be too cheap, can’t be too expensive, it should be a token of your affection – but not too affectionate! Where do you even begin?

If you’ve been smart enough to fall in love with someone who enjoys a good glass of wine, you can relax. At Total Wine & More, we’ve set aside a collection of wines that are perfect for Valentine’s Day – this Sunday.

Whether you want a fun bottle that simply says, “Hey, I think you’re kind of cute,” something delicious to accompany a romantic dinner or a bottle of bubbly to celebrate how lucky you are in love, we have it ready for you. What do you want to tell your Valentine?

Skip the roses and reach for rosé instead.

I’m sweet on you. Pick a bottle of red wine that’s slightly sweet, easy to sip with flirty conversation and a box of chocolates, but substantial enough to enjoy with a good meal. Wink Risqué Red, from California, is a fun and fruity wine that offers a wink and a smile to your Valentine.

You are luscious! Sharing a yummy dessert with your Valentine? Pour yourselves glasses of Paradise Peak Sweet Riesling. This Washington wine, with decadent aromas of apricot and peach, balances rich flavors with a crisp finish. Try it with a fruit tart or cream-filled pastries.

You deserve a bouquet of rosés.  Chill a refreshing, dry rosé from the South of France and serve with tasty snacks – olives, nuts, mild cheeses – that complement its Mediterranean style. Share the berry-scented Chateau La Tour Sainte Anne with a Valentine who appreciates an elegant wine.

I love you, and I made you dinner. You clearly have things under control! Now you just need a bottle of delicious Anakena Red Blend, from Chile’s Central Valley. Its jammy berry flavors will make a great pairing with a cozy spaghetti or steak dinner.

Champagne - Rondel GOLD - blog post

You’ve got that special sparkle. Rondel Gold Brut Cava, a highly rated bottling of Spain’s classic sparkling wine, is perfect to pop open when you feel like celebrating. In its shimmering, golden wrapper, it’s fun to share with someone who loves a touch of glamour.

Stop by any Total Wine & More stores this weekend, and we’ll help you find the perfect selection for the holiday. You can also shop online at www.TotalWine.com.
